For a young soldier recovering from devastating war wounds, nothing is more important than the comfort and encouragement of family.

Army Spc. Kevin H. has been able to benefit from that support, thanks to Angel Flight for Veterans. The charity has provided numerous flights for family members enabling them to visit him at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

The 21-year-old combat medic received severe injuries incurred in Iraq following a rocket-propelled explosion that hit Kevin's Humvee while he was on patrol, sending 12 pieces of shrapnel into his skull and blasting fingers from both of his hands. Now recovering at Walter Reed, he has undergone 18 surgeries, including bone and skin grafts, and faces many more operations.

"Without the assistance of Angel Flight for Veterans, it would have been virtually impossible for us to travel to D.C. to be at Kevin's bedside during this very difficult time," his mother said. "He has a long way to go."

Kevin, who received a Purple Heart decoration, remains upbeat. People often ask him if he has any regrets. "What is there to regret, if you're doing it for your country? I would do it ten times over," he said.
