American Valor Remembered Captain Hal Lewis was a member of an elite military task force who was killed when Special Operations Forces were sent to Iran in 1980 to rescue 52 Americans being held hostage in the United States Embassy by terrorists. Captain Lewis had a dream for his children. He wanted his kids to get a good college education. It was a dream that we thought should come true. On May 23, 1998, Captain Lewis' son, Jim, received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Florida. This was a proud moment for Jim and his family. His hard work and perseverance paid off. This also was a proud moment for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Our scholarship support helped to provide Jim with the college education that his father would have wanted. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides scholarship and counseling assistance to children of Army, Navy, Marine, and Air Force personnel assigned to the United States Special Operations Command who are killed in an operational or training mission. We remember those of give so much .... for America.
